Tango is half-Argentinian and half-French. Paris has been so important in this back-and-forth between the two countries. There are four key moments in the history of tango when – if it hadn’t been for Paris – tango would have disappeared. Perhaps.
Why is tango appealing to so many people around the world from different cultures? I think it’s because it is a popular music, so it goes deep inside us as humans.
And when you dance, you touch humanity.
You dance with someone you don’t know, you don’t know their name, you don’t know if they’re an asshole, if he’s a leftist or if he’s going to vote for Marine Le Pen. But maybe it’s going to be the dance of your life.
So you better not speak.
